Why I Created This Program

As a special education teacher for over 20 years, I've seen firsthand the devastating impact of peer aggression—particularly the hidden, relational bullying that happens beneath the surface.

After reading Rachel Simmons' groundbreaking book Odd Girl Out about the hidden culture of relational aggression among girls, I knew we needed a classroom-ready curriculum to give students (and teachers) a concrete roadmap.

I developed The Social Clarity Project™ and piloted it with Grade 7–8 girls. Their feedback was clear: "We need this. Everyone needs this."

So I expanded the program into three developmentally-appropriate versions spanning elementary to high school. I added a faith-based companion for Christian schools and youth groups.

The Curriculum

Seven core lessons scaffold students from awareness to action:

  1. The Language of Peer Aggression

  2. Bystander to Upstander

  3. Healthy and Unhealthy Friendships

  4. Self-Advocacy and Accountability

  5. Popularity and Leadership

  6. Cyberbullying and Digital Citizenship

  7. Bringing It All Together

Students learn to recognize aggression, evaluate their own social habits, and practice upstander intervention in a supportive environment.

The goal isn't to eliminate conflict but to build the emotional intelligence to navigate it safely and in love.
